“Life is very long” T.S. Eliot, The Hollow Men
The conversation turns to gravity As time dilates. Acceleration works Mystic consequences as arcane runes Are contemplated, scribbled on napkins. Ink bleeds in incomprehensible blots, Provides blurred clarity more than any Cryptic formulae before our vision. The woof and warp of time and space, entwined, Bestows no comfort, no insight for us Entombed in reference frames too leaden such That our lives drag out in space and time Entertained only by the fleeting glimpses Of a universe beyond our reckoning.
Really like the tone, subject, and word choices here. It paints a great picture and leaves one pondering.
Love the mix of science and metaphor—it’s a good example in my opinion of science catching up to older worldviews. Also, my dad was an astronomy teacher so I love this kind of thing. :)
